Robert Stokes, a Grand Rapids dermatologist, has been charged with violating the federal Fasle Claims Act. Stokes is charged with upcoding procedures to make it seem that he had performed a more difficult procedure on patients than he actually did, thus receiving higher reimbursement from federal health care plans. He has already been convicted on related criminal charges.
The Grand Rapids Press reports that the government is seeking $2.48 million under the FCA’s treble damage provision.
