“DOJ Recovered Over $2.9 Billion in 2024 False Claims Act Suits”

Phillips & Cohen partner Colette Matzzie spoke to Bloomberg Law about the Department of Justice recovering over $29 billion in 2024 from False Claims Act lawsuits.

The increase in cases filed over the last couple of years “likely reflects the expansion of qui tam actions” into the new areas of focus the DOJ cited, such as pandemic-relief programs and “increased scrutiny of contractor adherence to cybersecurity requirements,” said Colette G. Matzzie who represents whistleblowers with Phillips & Cohen LLP. “Commensurate increases in funding from Congress for fraud investigations and enforcement would no doubt return even more funds to the Treasury.”
