“Critics of a legislative proposal to reward whistleblowers as a way to encourage them to come forward are totally wrong about the impact of such a proposal (“Not right, mate: bounty hunter fear as whistleblower laws mooted,” March 2).
A law to reward and protect whistleblowers could be a total game-changer for enforcement of laws to protect investors and others, just as it has been in the US.
I speak from experience. I was the first chief of the US Securities and Exchange Commission Office of the Whistleblower and was responsible for setting up a system to evaluate and investigate the thousands of whistleblower tips the SEC received after the program started under the Dodd-Frank Act.”
