Today, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced a whistleblower award totaling approximately $300,000 to a whistleblower who provided original information that caused the Division of Enforcement at the CFTC to open an investigation that led to a successful enforcement action. According to the CFTC, “[The] whistleblower assisted DOE staff multiple times during the investigation, provided additional evidence, interpreted it for DOE staff, and conserved substantial resources for the CFTC.”
Statement of Christopher Ehrman, former Director of the CFTC’s Whistleblower Office and partner at Phillips & Cohen, an international whistleblower law firm:
“This award shows the essential role that whistleblowers play in partnership with the CFTC to protect the safety and soundness of our nation’s derivatives markets,” said Christopher Ehrman, partner and whistleblower attorney at Phillips & Cohen.
