SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Oct. 8, 2021 – Phillips & Cohen partner Claire M. Sylvia was honored as a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Litigation for 2021 for her record of success representing whistleblowers in qui tam cases and for her expertise in False Claims Act matters.
This is the fourth year in a row that Benchmark Litigation has selected Sylvia as a “Litigation Star.”
Sylvia has represented whistleblowers in a variety of successful False Claims Act matters, winning significant settlements from defendants in a various industries and securing meaningful awards for her whistleblower clients.
Sylvia brought qui tam cases against defense contractor Alliant Techsystems ($37 million settlement) and Adventist Health ($14.1 million settlement).
Earlier this year, Sylvia represented the whistleblower in a qui tam case again military contractor AAR Corp, securing a $11 million settlement and a $2.16 million award for her client.
She also represented the whistleblower in a ground-breaking case against Cisco Systems that settled for $8.6 million in 2019. It is likely the first successful qui tam case involving cybersecurity issues.
Sylvia is a nationally recognized leader in qui tam discourse. Her book, The False Claims Act: Fraud Against the Government, (West 2016), is an important contribution to the field. She has additionally testified at committee hearings of the US Congress and the California state legislature on healthcare fraud and the False Claims Act.
