U.S. DOJ statistics on qui tam lawsuits and other False Claims Act cases

Qui tam lawsuits brought under the False Claims Act for fraud against the federal government have recovered more than $44.7 billion – excluding billions in criminal fines – as a result of whistleblower cases since Congress updated the False Claims Act in 1986. Whistleblowers have filed 13,281 new qui tam cases since 1986.
Recoveries resulting from all qui tam and non-qui tam cases brought under the False Claims Act from 1986 to 2019 total over $62 billion. Whistleblower rewards for qui tam cases exceed $7.39 billion.
