What is the IRS Whistleblower program?

The IRS Whistleblower Program is an initiative established to encourage individuals to report tax fraud or underpayment by providing detailed information to the IRS. Since the inception of the IRS Whistleblower Program in 2007, over $1 billion in awards have been granted based on recovering more than $6 billion in unreported taxes, interest, penalties, and fines.

Attorneys at Phillips & Cohen help IRS whistleblowers expose tax fraud

Our attorneys are among the most knowledgeable and most successful in dealing with the Internal Revenue Service whistleblower program.

  • Our clients have received millions in IRS whistleblower rewards. That includes a nearly $20 million reward for exposing a number of abusive tax shelters involving billions of dollars, a $2 million award for exposing a tax avoidance scheme in Illinois, and a $1.1 million reward for exposing an alleged tax scheme involving Bankers Trust, Enron (before it collapsed), and others.
  • We worked closely with the IRS Whistleblower Office as part of a lawyers committee to help set up the IRS whistleblower program.
  • At the request of the IRS Whistleblower Office, one of our partners was a speaker at an IRS training session for IRS attorneys who handle whistleblower claims.

In total, we have recovered more than $12.3 billion from all of our whistleblower cases and have won more than $1 billion in whistleblower rewards for our clients.
